Red Belly Woodpecker Bird Painting
Red Belly Woodpecker and Branch
“This male Red Belly Woodpecker just finished pecking the nest on top of a electrical post. And the other day the female was inspecting the nest, my guess is that she aproved the job.” ~Roger Vasquez
This original watercolor painting, by father Roger Vasquez, are inspired by the native, migrating and nesting birds of tropical Florida. My parents live on the Manatee River with mangrove islands off the shore where birds nest.

Observing and appreciating birds have come late in my life, along with painting them with watercolors. Roger Vasquez was born and grew up in Honduras and moved to United States where he studied and worked in agriculture and floriculture. He has always been fascinated by birds but became enthralled by them when moving to Florida to retire. Being able to capture their expressions and forms have become his pastime.
